BAMBOO
For all of you sushi lovers out there, here is your new
hidden gem. Tucked away in the first floor of the Holiday Inn of Dedham, you
will find Bamboo. Don’t shy away from the randomness of the location because
this place is sure to keep you coming back time and again. While the scene is
nothing special and the décor is not much to look at, the sushi is king.
When I am seeking out a new sushi place, I do extensive
research. Sushi is not a cuisine that you can tackle blindly. One bad sushi
experience and it could put you off the stuff for life. Dining out for sushi is
sometimes less about the food and more about the sheer act of it. The
experience itself is out of the ordinary so it is important that it be taken
seriously. In my area, the options are few and far between when I’m looking to
get my sushi on. The day I was introduced to Bamboo, I knew I would quickly
become a regular. Today, I don’t know what I would do with out the place. The
staff is friendly, the environment is clean, and the booths are comfortable.
The small bar is great spot to grab a quick bite solo and
the dining room offers ample space for larger parties. Because it is located
inside a hotel, the people watching is great. There is always someone or
something interesting to watch. If you are heading out for lunch, Bamboo is a
great option. They offer an all you can eat buffet every day from 11:30-2,
including weekends and sushi! Pace yourself!
I would recommend the Red Lion Maki, which includes shrimp
tempura topped with perfectly mixed spicy tuna. For those of you with an avocado
addiction, The Dice-K roll (off the menu) takes the Red Sox Maki to the next level
by adding the good stuff. The Green Dragon and Celtic Maki are two more
signature rolls that are always flawlessly crafted. If you prefer to stick with
sushi staples, the Spicy Tuna roll and the Idaho Maki are my go to’s.
One of
the greatest parts about dining at Bamboo is washing down all your sushi with one
of their Mai Tai’s. The bartenders here know what they are doing. They hold all
of their tropical concoctions to high standards and you can rely on the outcome
to be consistent. If you plan to drive home, be careful! The drinks definitely
have a bite.
Bamboo also offers a large selection of gourmet Asian cuisine.
The fried rice is phenomenal, not to salty and always fresh. I also enjoy the
steamed mini shumai, located in the Japanese appetizer portion of the menu.
While I am not one for a seaweed salad, my friends tell me it is the best they
have ever had. Be sure to end your meal with a hearty serving of their fried
ice cream. I promise you will not regret it.
Overall, I give Bamboo an A+. The food is great, the drinks
are consistent, and bonus, there is plenty of parking. Check it out during your
next visit to Legacy Place; it is right across the way. Get there early on a Friday
or Saturday night, as they do get busy. Once you are seated however, the service
is prompt. After you try Bamboo once, I can guarantee you will be back again
and again. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE.
